"Could not load some objects because they are not available on this machine." error

If this appears when starting Excel, perform the following:

  1. Click the square stop button to stop the code.
  2. Determine if there are any MISSING references ('Tools>References') and fix them.
  3. Do you have a checked reference for "Microsoft Windows Common Controls 6.0 (SP6)"? (that's where the progressbar lives). If not, add it (C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX).
  4. Try unregistering, the re-registering MSCOMCTL.OCX (refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2746232) in C:\Windows\System32 (C:\Windows\SysWOW64 on 64bit computers). To unregister, use the command 'regsvr32 /u' (instead of 'regsvr32').
  5. Try running the Office installation to detect and repair errors.
  6. Refer to Microsoft Office Security Update breaks third-party Add-Ins and try running the Microsoft patch.
